I haven't received any answers so far from kwin developers, but I understand that (they are doing a really great job with gl es port and so on, I imagine they haven't got much free time). I have all the necessary hardware (2 nvidia gtx285), but the real problem is that sources are really not that clear. The problem seems to be that it connects to a sort of "server" via dbus, and only one instance of it is started with kde (on screen 0). In these weeks I think I've tracked down the problem to kephal, the library that interfaces with randr and gets the screen resolution. > Are there some progress on fixing this bug?īefore I need testing, I need to actually understand it :-). > Did you talk wiht some of the kwin developers regarding those issues? > Do you need some hardware for developing? > Do you need help for from an end user regarding testing? That's a screenshot of my desktop (the black border is the size difference of both displays): (Note: you can set up the standard position of a window) Yes, you can set up in your system-settings under "multiple monitors" in your screen settings which screen you prefer for apps to open in. I'm not sure about that dpi thing, never used that and I wont test ist.

> We had all that, until linux started trying to become a Windows clone. > * can you have a separately configured desktop and taskbar, and widgets? > * can you launch a program and tell it to open it's window on your preferred > * can you set a different dpi in those monitors of yours? > Instead you are proposing an inferior, proprietary, vendor specific and yet > asking for the native true dual-head or actually now multi-head mode to be > this *BUG* and restore lost functionality that was in kde since forever. > we have been trying for 3 years to draw the developers' attention on GeForce 9600gt (driver: 256.5) with muliscreen setup (2 Screens: LCD-Monitor 1280x1024 LCD-TV 720p) Please believe me that working multiscreen is often needed in the 21th century. I don't want to reproduce why twin-view is often no alternative in the most cases. But I think many users would help with tests and bug reports like it's been done on plasma. I know that this a problematic topic to the kwin developers because of the missing hardware. incorrect screensize if there two (ore more) screens with different resolution (you can see it if you maximize a program on the smaller screen) after you are closing an app on the first screen the focus is sometimes on an other. loosing focus of the actual active screen (e.g. broken switching between apps with alt+tab on all screens ( ) broken handling of shortcuts (don't know if it's a kwin topic) Gnome, Fluxbox).Īfter getting multiscreen support for plasma in 4.5.3 (minor bugs are left) it's up to kwin developers to support multiscreen correctly.

Also it's not bug of missing support in the graphic drivers (in my case nvidia) since it is working in other DE (e.g. How important the feature of a working multiscreen behavior in kde for the users is would be clarified by the multiscreen bug of plasma ( 290 votes).

But these are mostly answered with "the driver don't support multiscreen" ( ) or nobody needs/uses multiscreen ( ).

I now there are already serveral other bug reports which belong to this topic. Catch glIsUnsafe conflict and avoid tabbox invocation from wrong screen
